Ansiedad Social en Estudiantes Universitarios de Carreras de Salud de Córdoba

Abstract

La ansiedad social se caracteriza por un temor intenso a ser evaluado negativamente en situaciones sociales afectando a millones de personas en el mundo. Este malestar adquiere particular relevancia en estudiantes universitarios de carreras de salud, ya que impacta tanto en su bienestar actual, como en sus futuras relaciones con pacientes. El objetivo del presente estudio fue analizar la relación entre la ansiedad social y las expectativas de rechazo, la autoeficacia social, las dificultades en la regulación emocional, el miedo al abandono y la autoestima en estudiantes de carreras de salud de la ciudad de Córdoba. Se empleó un enfoque cuantitativo, de diseño no experimental, transversal y de alcance correlacional. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 403 estudiantes, entre 17 y 58 años (M=23.46; DE=6.83). Se utilizaron instrumentos de autoinforme con escalas tipo Likert. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos, correlacionales y de covarianza (ANCOVA). Los resultados indicaron correlaciones fuertes y altamente significativas entre la ansiedad social y las expectativas de rechazo (r=.65), el miedo al abandono (r=.57), las dificultades en la regulación emocional (r=.54), la autoestima (r =–.52) y la autoeficacia social (r=–.69). No se hallaron diferencias significativas por género (p =.266), pero sí según el tipo de universidad (p=.022), con mayores niveles de ansiedad social en instituciones privadas. El estudio cumplió sus objetivos y validó empíricamente la mayoría de las hipótesis, aportando evidencia útil para orientar futuras investigaciones e intervenciones que promuevan el bienestar psicológico en la población universitaria.

Social anxiety is characterized by an intense fear of being negatively evaluated in social situations, affecting millions of people worldwide. This distress is particularly relevant among university students in health-related fields, as it impacts both their current well-being and their future relationships with patients. The aim of the present study was to analyze the relationship between social anxiety and social rejection expectations, social self-efficacy, difficulties in emotion regulation, fear of abandonment, and self-esteem among health science students in the city of Córdoba. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design was employed. The sample consisted of 403 students aged between 17 and 58 years (M = 23.46; SD = 6.84). Self-report instruments with Likert-type scales were used. Descriptive, correlational, and covariance analyses (ANCOVA) were conducted. Results indicated strong and highly significant correlations between social anxiety and rejection expectations (r = .65), fear of abandonment (r = .57), difficulties in emotion regulation (r = .54), self-esteem (r = –.52), and social self-efficacy (r = –.69). No significant differences were found by gender (p = .266), but differences emerged according to the type of university (p = .022), with higher levels of social anxiety in private institutions. The study met its objectives and empirically supported most of the hypotheses, providing useful evidence to guide future research and interventions aimed at promoting psychological well-being in university populations.
