The following article analyzes the growing trend toward medicalization and overdiagnosis of ADHD in childhood, as well as the epistemological evidence for the disorder. Based on a qualitative study, the diagnostic expansion and its social, institutional, and economic factors are discussed. The impact of diagnosis and interventions on children's self-esteem and well-being are also discussed, as is the need for more critical, collaborative, and developmentally diverse diagnostic practices. Through documented evidence, the article emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary work and prioritizing pedagogical and family support strategies before using psychotropic drugs as the first line of treatment.
