Abstract The following scientific manuscript explored the media treatment of mental health in Argentina during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, analyzing how the main media outlets, Clarín, La Voz del Interior, and Perfil, addressed the issue and its impact on public perception. Using agenda-setting and framing theories, it examined how news coverage influenced the visibility and understanding of mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and stress, which were exacerbated during the lockdown. The research highlighted the need for ethical and balanced communication that would avoid sensationalism and misinformation to prevent further stigma and distress in the population. The analysis was developed through a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods, such as surveys and expert interviews. The results showed limited and, in some cases, inadequate coverage, with insufficient emphasis on the emotional well-being of citizens. The study's recommendations stressed the importance of closer collaboration between the media and mental health professionals to improve the quality of information and promote healthy news consumption. The study concluded that appropriate media coverage could positively influence mental health and provide emotional support.
