This research explores the factors influencing the adoption of international payment methods by retail consumers in the City of Buenos Aires and the Province of Buenos Aires. Using a mixed-methods approach and data triangulation, the study analyzed perceptions, motivations, and barriers from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives. Findings show that cost savings, greater product variety, and operational convenience drive cross-border payment adoption, while perceived operational complexity and regulatory restrictions limit it to varying degrees across user segments. The analysis also reveals a digital divide that differentially affects access to these services. The study concludes that Argentine consumer behavior is mediated by economic, technological, and symbolic factors, and that strengthening institutional frameworks and digital financial literacy is key to expanding the international payments ecosystem.
