La logística global sustentable en Argentina: el rol estratégico del transporte ferroviario de cargas.

Abstract

Este trabajo analizó el potencial del transporte ferroviario de cargas como alternativa sustentable al transporte automotor en Argentina, con el objetivo de evaluar su capacidad para reducir el impacto ambiental y mejorar la eficiencia logística en el contexto del comercio exterior. Se adoptó un diseño descriptivo y explicativo, con enfoque cuantitativo y cualitativo, mediante una investigación no experimental basada en fuentes secundarias. Se abordaron tres ejes principales: la evolución técnica y operativa del sistema ferroviario nacional, la comparación con el transporte automotor en términos de eficiencia energética, emisiones contaminantes y costos logísticos, y su impacto en la competitividad exportadora. Los resultados mostraron un crecimiento sostenido en el volumen de carga ferroviaria transportada entre 2015 y 2025, acompañado de mejoras en infraestructura y equipamiento. Asimismo, se comprobó una ventaja significativa del ferrocarril respecto al transporte automotor en trayectos de larga distancia, tanto desde el punto de vista ambiental como económico. Sin embargo, también se identificaron limitaciones en la conectividad con centros industriales y portuarios. Se concluyó que, si bien el transporte ferroviario todavía enfrenta desafíos logísticos, posee el potencial de fortalecer la logística global argentina en términos de sustentabilidad, competitividad y articulación regional.

This study analyzed the potential of freight rail transport as a sustainable alternative to road transport in Argentina, with the aim of evaluating its capacity to reduce environmental impact and improve logistical efficiency within the context of foreign trade. A descriptive and explanatory design was adopted, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, through a non-experimental investigation based on secondary sources. Three main areas were addressed: the technical and operational development of the national railway system, its comparison with road transport in terms of energy efficiency, pollutant emissions and logistics costs, and its impact on export competitiveness. The results showed sustained growth in the volume of rail freight transported between 2015 and 2025, along with improvements in infrastructure and equipment. A significant advantage of rail transport over road transport was also confirmed for long-distance operations, both from an environmental and economic perspective. However, limitations in connectivity with industrial centers and ports were also identified. It was concluded that, although freight rail transport still faces logistical challenges, it has the potential to strengthen Argentina’s global logistics in terms of sustainability, competitiveness, and regional integration.
