This research analyzes the influence of the family on the criminal behavior of children and adolescents in Chamical, La Rioja. The aim was to understand how certain family dynamics can increase the chances of developing criminal behaviors during childhood and adolescence. A qualitative approach was used based on semi-structured interviews composed of open and closed questions to six people from the community: teachers, security professionals, neighbors, and parents. The collection instrument was a question form that was carried out virtually and in person, depending on the availability of the participants. The results revealed common patterns in the testimonies, such as family breakdown, lack of emotional support, violence, the absence of limits, and conditions of socioeconomic vulnerability. It is concluded that the family plays a fundamental role in the development of young people, and that vulnerable or dysfunctional family environments can become risk factors that favor criminal behavior. Likewise, the importance of generating a family and social support network to prevent recidivism is highlighted; early intervention is essential to generate opportunities for healthy development of young people living in vulnerable situations. It is important to design and implement prevention policies and comprehensive family support programs.
