Equinoterapia en niñas con diagnóstico de Síndrome de Rett

Abstract

El presente trabajo indaga sobre los beneficios que logra la equinoterapia como tratamiento en niñas con diagnóstico de Síndrome de Rett. El objetivo principal es investigar los medios de acción de la terapia con caballos para trabajar sobre los aspectos clínicos que presentan estas niñas, como pueden ser: estereotipias, marcha ataxia, conductas autísticas y regresión psicomotora. Para llevar adelante el estudio, se empleó un enfoque cualitativo, recopilando datos a través de la búsqueda de investigaciones, trabajos de grado, papers científicos y entrevistas realizadas a profesionales que se dedican a esta terapia y que actualmente tienen pacientes que acuden con diagnóstico de SR. Los resultados muestran mejoras significativas en la marcha, postura, comunicación y habilidades sociales de los participantes. Además, se identificó que la interacción con el caballo crea una cascada de estímulos que actúan sobre el sistema nervioso de la persona que monta, favoreciendo la formación de nuevas conexiones neuronales y retrasando la regresión psicomotora que presentan. La discusión se enfoca en los mecanismos de acción de la equinoterapia, resultando el movimiento rítmico del caballo y la estimulación multisensorial como elementos esenciales para el avance motor, social, comunicacional y psicológico de las niñas. Las conclusiones ratifican que la equinoterapia es una modalidad de tratamiento efectivo, tanto como terapia principal o coadyuvante. Su inclusión en los planes de rehabilitación de pacientes con afecciones del sistema nervioso, discapacidad o trastornos del espectro autista demuestran su eficacia. Sin embargo, se recomienda continuar estudiando esta terapia especial, ya que son pocos lugares los que pueden llevarla adelante.This work investigates the benefits that equine therapy achieves as a treatment in girls diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. The main objective is to investigate the means of action of therapy with horses to work on the clinical aspects that these girls present, such as: stereotypies, ataxia gait, autistic behaviors and psychomotor regression. To carry out the study, a qualitative approach was used, collecting data through the search for research, graduate work, scientific papers and interviews with professionals who are dedicated to this therapy and who currently have patients who come with a diagnosis of SR. The results show significant improvements in gait, posture, communication and social skills of the participants. Furthermore, it was identified that the interaction with the horse creates a cascade of stimuli that act on the nervous system of the person riding, favoring the formation of new neuronal connections and delaying the psychomotor regression they present. The discussion focuses on the mechanisms of action of equine therapy, resulting in the rhythmic movement of the horse and multisensory stimulation as essential elements for the motor, social, communicational and psychological advancement of girls. The conclusions confirm that equine therapy is an effective treatment modality, both as main or adjuvant therapy. Its inclusion in the rehabilitation plans of patients with nervous system conditions, disabilities or autism spectrum disorders demonstrates its effectiveness. However, it is recommended to continue studying this special therapy, since there are few places that can carry it out.
